L’artiste Nancy Guilmette présente au Cinéma Moderne du 1er au 31 mai Jardin de passage – Série 2, une exposition explorant les liens intimes entre l’art, le design et la germination, l'éveil de la nature, dans une lenteur assurée. Par l’observation à divers stades de leur transformation de végétaux locaux choisis, Nancy Guilmette met de l’avant le rôle esthétique et biologique des plantes en milieu urbain.
Transposant le potager au Cinéma Moderne, l’artiste crée une installation vivante semblable à un laboratoire qui reproduit le cycle de la nature. Au gré des journées, les passant(e)s suivront à distance la germination des semences provenant des artisans semenciers du Québec jusqu’à l’éclosion d’une mini canopée urbaine.
Sept jours par semaine, Nancy Guilmette vêtue d’une combinaison orange emblématique exécutera à heures fixes le rituel de l’entretien des plantes sous le regard du public.
Par sa démarche, pendant un mois l’artiste prendra place au Cinéma Moderne en transposant dans le Mile-End la lumière, l’image et l’émotion propres à l’art cinématographique. La lumière donne à la végétation, comme au cinéma sa vivacité. Le Cinéma Moderne s’illuminera de l’intérieur, comme si le projecteur endormi se réveillait d’un long sommeil.

The artist Nancy Guillmette will be presenting 'Jardin de passage'-Series 2 from May 1st to 31. The exhibit explores the intimate links between art, design, and nature. By observation of stages of transformation of locally selected plants, Nancy Guillmette highlights the aesthetic and biological role of plants in urban areas.
Transposing the vegetable garden to the Cinéma Moderne, the artist creates a living installation comparable to a laboratory which reproduces the cycles of nature. Throughout the days, viewers will observe from a distance the germination of seeds provided by artisanal seeders of Québec till the spawning of a miniature urban canopy.
Each day of the week at set hours, Nancy Guillmette will attend dressed in an emblematic orange jumpsuit to tend to the plants under the watchful eyes of passers-by.
By her process, the artist will take a month settling at the Cinéma Moderne by transposing into the Mile-End the light, images, and emotions proper to the art of cinematography. The light gives the vegetation its vivacity as it does to cinema. The Cinéma Moderne will slowly light up from the inside as a projector awakening from its prolonged slumber.
